Talking about the weather

I am frequently checking the weather on the BBC website - the detail is impressive, especially their animated rain drops, which living in the UK we of course see often. However, recently I'm getting a bit fed up that I keep seeing this:

The BBC don't help my addiction to weather checking, seeing as they seem to change their weather forecast every 10 minutes I feel I need to keep up with it second by second. I'd like to say that the 'sunny/rainy/cloudy' symbol is just a cop out on the BBC's part, a catch-all weather statement which means that they can never be seen to have got the forecast totally wrong. But alas, our weather simply has been that crazy recently - one minute its reminiscent of Provence in the Spring, another second sweltering like the Amazon, the next day you've got the depressing cement grey sky more reminiscent of November than of August. I don't really know why I expect it to be better at this time of year - it's not like our summers are particularly reliable - but it's difficult to know where you are with this kind of weather and sometimes I yearn for the security of knowing that a summer means sun, and that tomorrow you can confidently expect you can put on shorts and sandals without fearing that later you'll be caught in a monsoon and end up sliding your way home in muddy flip flops.

It's said that stereotypes often stem from some truth, and in the case of the British being obsessed with talking about the weather I think this one is true...

Hi Stella - it's me, RM, I'm back

And, for what it's worth, we have those nonsense forecasts too. Mostly fine, with some cloud and the chance of a shower. I've started to take it to mean "look out the window, because that's what we do"
